Frog and Toad Together–Cookies

DRTA Lesson Plan:

Read the title.

Picture Walk through the book.

  • What do you think is going to happen?

Read pages 30-32.

  • What did Toad do?  (Baked cookies and brought them over to Frog’s house)
  • What did Frog think?  (They should stop eating cookies or they would be sick)
  • What do you think will happen next?

Read pages 33-34.

  • What did Frog and Toad do?  (They kept eating cookies)
  • What is “will power” that Frog mentions?

Read pages 35-37.

  • Was our definition of “will power” correct?  (“Will power is trying hard not to do something that you really want to do.” page 35)
  • Are Frog and Toad demonstrating will power?  (No.)
  • What do they do with the cookies?  (Frog puts the cookies in a box and ties string around it.)
  • What do you think will happen next?

Read pages 38-39.

  • What did Frog do with the box of cookies?  (Took it off the shelf, cut the string and opened the box.)
  • What do you think will happen next?

Read pages 40-41.

  • What did Frog do with the box of cookies?  (Took them outside and fed them to the birds.)
  • How did Toad feel?  (Sad.)
  • What were Frog and Toad’s feelings about will power?  (Frog said they had lots and lots of will power and Toad said Frog could keep it all.)
  • What did Toad do?  (Go home to bake a cake.)
  • Were our predictions correct?

How can we have will power in our daily lives?

    Chrisi,
    I also chose this book for my lesson plan. I did have a difficult time trying to find vocabulary words to discuss with my students. Comparing how we both did this story was interesting.
